Flowers and Flower Moon Eclipse

I was busy much of the beginning of this week, so I didn't get anything done with the Green car.

Red car still has a squeaky wheel...

I picked another bunch of roses from my garden, and painted some more!

Here is the beginning sketch:

I was determined to use mostly watercolors, and not use highlighter markers as much.

The sketchbook paper isn't meant for watercolor, so it wrinkles a little.

I still used my highlighter markers for details.

I made the background darker, and then I ran out of time.

I was happier with these results, than the previous day's.

I heard about the lunar eclipse, but didn't think I would stay up until 4 am to see it.

The moon was bright, but there were patches of clouds.

I've figured out that my cell phone camera isn't any good at taking moon pictures.

My dad recently bought some high powered binoculars, as strong as a small telescope.

I had briefly used them to look at a planet, (it was boring) but never tried to see the moon.

I held my phone's camera up to the eyepiece.

It was a struggle at first.

I looked up a tutorial, but it seemed I wasn't doing anything wrong.

Eventually I got my cell phone in the right position, and was able to take a photo.

I spent a few hours following the moon across the sky, trying to hold the cell phone steady.

I realized I had never really looked at it closely before.

Looking through the binoculars wasn't the same as looking at a photo of the moon.

The moon looked JUST like these drawings I remember, by Gallileo:

My photos were only half as clear as what I could see in the binoculars.

Eventually it got late, I got tired, the moon was dim, and the binoculars fogged up.

It was getting harder to get the photos to come out clearly.

I didn't even stay awake long enough to see the complete eclipse!

(I've seen them before though)

Still, the experiment with the binoculars was totally rewarding!
